A Shot in the Arm

Two Faces I climbed up to the top of the world, And sat, hanging my feet from the edge, Looked down at you, sighing sadly, When you said you could pull your own sledge.   I found then a face, looking up. A baffled one, that was yours, Before you walked straight into the trap, Of the world’s unreal allure.   I gasped at the vanishing stairs, That kept me from reaching you, My screams of caution silently drowned, In that trap’s carbon hue.   Look up, look up, look up at me, Still here, I haven’t gone away, Climb out and listen to these yells, Look up at the face that begs you to stay!
